Collingwood Public Library won the prize at the 2016 Georgian Bay Reads event on Saturday, October 22. Julie LeBlanc defended The Manticore by Robertson Davies and was the last book standing at the 8th annual event held this year at Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre. Clearview Public Library’s Michele McKenzie came in second with They Left Us Everything by Plum Johnson and won the Popular Choice Award.
All the defenders started off well, explaining why their books should win. But Springwater Public Library’s Katy Austin was the first to be voted off with her book Etta and Otto and Russell and James by Emma Hooper. Helen Solmes of Meaford with The High Mountains of Portugal by Yann Martel went down next and Mike Gennings of Wasaga Beach with Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan was eliminated after her. All in all, it was a fine evening of literary discussion with light-hearted competition.
Thanks to all our sponsors for making this a truly wonderful event!
